Provides a useful marker of active bone formation

Bone-Specific Alkaline Phosphatase Blood Test

Bone-Specific Alkaline Phosphatase Blood Test

Concerned about bone integrity?

Bone loss often occurs as a result of an imbalance between bone reabsorption (disappearance) and bone formation. This test measures a marker of active bone formation, which gives those concerned about bone disorders an accurate picture of their risk. Osteoporosis, a chronic and slowly developing condition, is characterized by a reduction of bone mass and integrity making people more susceptible to fractures. Osteoporosis generally occurs with increasing age and in post-menopausal women.

Bone-specific alkaline phosphatase (bone ALP) is a useful marker of active bone formation.
